A Look at Williamsburg’s Luxurious Oosten Complex, Coming In 2016
While it’s no secret that the north side of Williamsburg has undergone dramatic development in recent years, south Williamsburg has been slower to transform, remaining relatively low-key compared to its other half. Of course, we know that’s all about to change with the Domino project officially underway, but in case you missed it, an equally outsized building is coming to the south side called the Oosten and today we got our first look at what’s to come.
Via Curbed NY, the Oosten (Dutch for “East”) is being designed by Dutch architect Piet Boon and will include a 13,865-square-foot courtyard surrounded by “216 apartments along with 15 townhouses with underground garages lining the side streets.” Below the buildings, residents will find a fitness center with a 55-foot pool and high above that will be a rooftop pool. Throughout the complex there will also be bike storage, children’s areas and various lounges.
The project is being helmed by XIN Development Group International, a subsidiary of Xinyuan Real Estate Company that will head up the company’s U.S. projects. If all goes according to plan, XIN hopes to open the Oosten, which will be located at 429 Kent Avenue at S. 8th Street, by 2016.
