VH1 To “Make A Band Famous” At The Northside Festival
This Thursday, the Northside Festival returns for its sixth year, and it’s shaping up to be the best one yet. For eight days, attendees are invited to enjoy the best in music, art, tech and film at venues throughout North Brooklyn. On top of all that, there’s “Make a Band Famous,” a collaboration between VH1, Republic Records and Northside, wherein one of 24 lucky bands will compete live starting tonight for a chance at stardom, which of course includes a performance at the festival.
Here’s the full breakdown:
Over the course of one day, 24 bands will compete for the title by performing for a panel of judges, including international pop star and Grammy Award-nominee Natasha Bedingfield; musical director to Justin Timberlake, Pharrell and Maroon 5 Adam Blackstone; YouTube singer/producer with over 4.2 million subscribers Kurt Hugo Schneider; and West Coast indie artist, record producer, and composer of the new feature film Palo Alto Robert Schwartzman.
None of the bands will be going into the competition blind either: Competition coaches include rapper Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, Chris Daughtry of Daughtry, and the singer/songwriter behind Katy Perry’s biggest hits, Bonnie McKee. Benji and Joel Maddan (of Good Charlotte), Ed Sheeran, Colbie Caillet and Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz (of Fall Out Boy) will also make special appearances.
The competition finale (free to attend) will take place at Red Hook’s Liberty Warehouse on Thursday night, June 12 where the final three bands will perform. After that, the top band will head to the Palladia Showcase at the Knitting Factory to perform before a live audience. Sound good?
The entire competition will be stream live on MakeABandFamous.VH1.com, the VH1 app and on VH1 starting at 8 p.m. tonight, June 11, so make sure to tune in. And may the best band win!
