May the Odds Be Ever In Your Favor At Gowanus’ New Archery Gym
Much like Brooklyn Heights has fruit-related street names and Downtown Brooklyn (#DoBro) has a growing entourage of trend pieces, Gowanus is fast becoming Brooklyn’s go-to neighborhood for esoteric sports. First came the Brooklyn Fencing Center and Brooklyn Boulders, followed by the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club, and this week, Gotham Archery.
The 7,500-sq-ft space will open at Baltic and Nevins Streets on Friday and will feature two separate rooms—or, Districts, if you will—a larger one with 20 lanes for beginners, as well as a 10-lane room for people who actually know what they’re doing. Before practicing, however, you’ll have to first take a 15-minute introductory lesson followed by 45-minutes of practice for $25, which also includes all-day equipment.
Lest you assume attempting the sport of archery is akin to, oh, I dunno, volunteering as tribute, co-owner Ken Hsu said bluntly, “Literally anybody is able to do this sport.” There you have it. May the odds—oh, fuck it.
