Watch: New Video Shows Kara Walker Creating Her Iconic Sphinx
Today marks exactly two weeks since Kara Walker debuted her riveting Domino Sugar Refinery-based exhibit, A Subtlety, or the Marvelous Sugar Baby. Since then, Brooklyn and the world outside our borough haven’t been able to get enough of the show. Like we said before, it’s a must-see.
To celebrate these last two weeks, Art21, a PBS-affiliated non-profit organization, has shared an amazing nine minute video showing the painstaking process Walker endured to create her now-iconic mammy sphinx, which measures 75.5 feet in length and stands 35.5 feet high.
Check out the amazing video, which also includes an interview with Walker, after the jump:
A Subtlety will be on public display at the Domino Sugar Refinery (S. 1st St. and Kent Ave.) through Sunday, July 6. Exhibit hours are Fridays (4 p.m. – 8 p.m.) and Saturdays & Sundays (12 p.m. – 6 p.m.). Visit Creative Time online for more information.
