A Primer: Brooklyn-Themed Bars, Restaurants, and Ukulele Shops In Foreign Countries

First things first, gay Par-ee, home of the regrettable “Tres Brooklyn” phenomenon. Friends who’ve been there recently have mentioned both that people really do use that expression (ugh), and, interestingly enough, that a lot of the city’s Brooklyn-themed establishments lean more in the direction of generalized Americana—think cardboard cut-outs of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean rather than a focus on, say, mason jars.
This would explain the fare at the Bedford Avenue Diner, which started making headlines a while back for its Williamsburg-aping name as well as a seeming preoccupation with Chuck Norris (they’ve got a “Chuck Norris Burger” on the menu, as well as a “Le ‘Royale’ Bedford,” and Norris’ image factors heavily into their decorating and promotions).
