Forget Bottomless Brunch, Check Out Our Six Favorite Brooklyn Brunch Spots
Marco’s
Well, I’ll be honest, Marco’s is probably my favorite new restaurant of the year. And, yes, I know it opened late last year, but I didn’t get around to going until early February, and now I want to go back all the time. And while I can’t quite do that, I am one step closer to it, because Marco’s just started serving brunch last weekend. And what a brunch! The wood-grilled oysters are perfectly plump and briny, with just the right amount of smokiness. They’re a perfect start to the meal, especially when enjoyed with a spicy Bull Shot (vodka, beef broth, and pickled vegetables), which is pretty much the best Bloody Mary that you’ll ever have. There aren’t really any weak spots on the tightly edited menu, but my favorites include the peppery, nutty puntarelle salad; the spiedino alla Romana (sort of like a Monte Cristo, only stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies, like the Romans do); wood-grilled walnut-raisin bread smothered with a thick layer of ricotta and drizzled with wildflower honey; and the light, perfectly crumbly hazelnut cake with preserved blackberries. Finish off your meal with a glass of milk punch (rum, bourbon, milk, nutmeg, and vanilla) that tastes like melted coffee ice cream (in the best possible way) and, you know, thank me later. I’m pretty sure it’ll be the best brunch you’ve ever had.
