Alexander Wang Doesn’t Want Anyone To Have to Take The Subway To His Brooklyn Show [Updated]
The Daily News has been keeping close tabs on Alexander Wang’s forthcoming Fashion Week show at the Brooklyn Navy Yard—about which attendees were reportedly “pissed”(it’s pretty far away from the rest of the shows around Lincoln Center)—and it looks like Wang’s really going out of his way to make sure no one has to make the long, downhill, slushy walk from the York St. F station to the Duggal Greenhouse on Saturday.
Women’s Wear Daily reported earlier this week that invitations to the show included “step-by-step driving directions” to the venue as well as a promo code for 30 percent off a ride with Uber, and apparently Wang has also chartered a 149-person New York Water Taxi, as well as charter buses to get invitees to the venue (a Water Taxi official notes of anyone hoping to crash the boat without an invitation, “Security will sift them out.”)
And with that, a non-controversy is over as quickly as it began. If anyone feels the need to charter us a boat the next time we have an obligation in Manhattan, that’d be just fine.
[Update:] In addition to earlier statements that the decision to show in Brooklyn was because “we found this incredible space, and it corresponds very well to this season’s creative concept,” it would seem that the primary motivation for Wang’s decision to come across the river was that he was displaced from his usual venue by the Westminster dog show. Now that’s the denouement this story needed.
