The 2014 Brooklyn Restaurant Preview: Everywhere You’re Going to Want to Eat this Year
The Gorbals: Although he won the second season of Top Chef, Ilan Hall doesn’t have nearly as much name recognition as past contenders (Dale Talde is living proof that you can come in sixth on the show and still emerge as a total rock star). That’s not to say that Hall hasn’t been busy; he owns a popular restaurant in downtown L.A called The Gorbals, and recently announced a Williamsburg expansion, expected to open in April. Judging by the current menu, his concept sounds perfectly on trend (bacon-wrapped matzoh balls, duck latkes), but he’s expected to do the chic member-of-the-tribe bit one better with a few “Jewish-Scottish” small plates as well. We really don’t want to know what happens when gefilte fish meets haggis — haven’t our people suffered enough?
