Brooklyn Star: You’ll have to expand your definition of Southern comfort food if you expect to successfully to weather temptation at biscuits and bacon-happy Brooklyn Star. But there’s a symphony of appealing flavors at play in the chicory salad with pearl barley, braised fennel, smoked beets, horseradish crema and candied walnuts, especially compared to the (albeit highly pleasurable) one-note plate of fried pig tails with tater tots. And the roasted, sweet tea-glazed chicken with dirty rice and broccolini is an entirely acceptable substitute for country-fried steak with mashed potatoes, bacon and hot slaw.
