The most common question New Yorkers ask each other is, “What do you do?” In this city of overachievers and workaholics, a person’s profession can say a lot about who they are and what they care about. But the second most asked question is, “Where do you live?” This isn’t just geographical curiosity (though, of course, we know… location, location, location), but a New Yorker’s way of saying, “How do you live?” After all, this city isn’t known for its wide-open spaces or even wide-open floor plans. So it’s always fascinating to find out how people from all walks of life make their houses (or apartments) into homes. We visited eight different spaces in Brooklyn that are occupied by men and women in some of the professions most associated with Brooklyn today. There’s the writer, the architect, the politician, the tech entrepreneur… these are the people you see on Brooklyn’s streets. This is where they live.
