Eight of the Best Places in Brooklyn To See Live Comedy
Goodbye Blue Monday
The weirdo charm of Goodbye Blue Monday has always been that literally anyone can perform here—all they have to do is ask, or show up to an open mic night. The same goes for their Thursday comedy nights, which are as crazily unpredictable as they are delightful and oddly cathartic. They’re also paced with a surprising amount of finesse; the last time I went, the lineup carefully built up steam from a wasted amateur who repeatedly asked the audience if they woke up wanting to kill themselves, to a polished, genuinely promising local guy who told one of the only legitimately funny jokes about hipster culture I’ve heard in years. Then, of course, the comedy portion of the evening wrapped up and two old men came on stage to perform indecipherable spoken-word-slash-jazz.
