Six Old-School Brooklyn Bakeries To Get You Through The Closing Of Cammareri Bros.

Bay Ridge residents were understandably distraught when this 50-year-old Scandinavian bakery closed its doors in 2011, but since being re-opened last year by a couple of locals, the place has actually done so well that they opened a second outpost in South Slope. They epitomize every single thing people love about small neighborhood businesses (it’s their official policy to offer a free cookie to all kids, or “pre-adults” who pass through their doors), and are of the few places in New York to get most Scandinavian pastries, not to mention freshly-baked, honest-to-god black and white cookies that put the sad store-bought variety to shame. From our own Bay Ridge native Henry Stewart: “There aren’t a lot of places left to get excellent Limpa in NYC. Or say you were getting confirmed into the Lutheran church; who else would make the kransekake?” Who indeed.
