Bill de Blasio Has No Clue Who Banksy Is
Well, this has been an unexpectedly bang-up week for jaw-dropping political allegations. First, Congressman Michael Grimm allegedly had sex in a Bay Ridge bathroom, and now it comes out that Bill de Blasio seems to be utterly in the dark about the existence of Banksy? An artist our current mayor feels strongly enough about that he’d like to see his work banned from our city’s blank wall space, and who presumably is suuuuper well-regarded among de Blasio’s core Park Slope constituency? How did this happen?
It’s unclear. But the Daily News makes a strong case that our presumptive future mayor has never heard of the artist (or his Oscar-nominated 2010 documentary). The paper reports that when asked earlier today about Banksy’s ongoing stint in New York, de Blasio “looked confused,” and responded, “Say that again?” When a reporter asked again about Banksy, de Blasio said, “I don’t know the artist, so I can’t comment.”
Can’t comment? Can’t comment! What kind of a leader even is he? Well, probably a fine one. Fewer people talking about Banksy is just fine. But anyway, expect a terrifying new Joe Lhota ad about de Blasio’s support for violent, criminal-minded graffiti artists shortly. [Photo]
