A Literary Pub Crawl: 10 Books to Read in 10 Brooklyn Bars
Tørst
“I believe that before all else I am a reasonable human being, just as you are—or, at all events, that I must try and become one.”
How do you feel about reading plays? I guess it depends on the play, right? Well, Ibsen’s spare, feminist play A Doll’s House is the perfect play to start with, because it features one of the great female characters of all time, who captivates you with that singularly desperate plight of being a powerless woman trapped in circumstances that she worries are beyond her control. It only makes sense to be reading a Nordic author in Greenpoint’s very own Nordic beer bar. Plus, you can probably make it all the way through the play during one trip to Tørst while drinking a glass or two of Viking Blød mead. And if you’re not into reading plays? Try Sigrid Unset’s epic novel about another early Norwegian feminist, Kristin Lavransdatter. Kristin is also about the plight of being trapped in a complicated relationship because, well, that’s just the human condition, Nordic or not.
What to drink: Beer, of course. Or mead in the form of 19% ABV Viking Blød. The beer on tap changes all the time at Tørst, so get a recommendation from the bartender, but know that you can’t go wrong with a glass full of something from Evil Twin brewery
