Eat (And Drink) Your Way Through Literary Brooklyn
Kos Kafe
Of the countless coffee shops where people really do go to get their writing done, Park Slope’s Kos Kafe is notable for a cameo in the forthcoming film A Short History Of Decay (about a “failed Brooklyn writer,” naturally). As part of filming last winter, writer/director Michael Maren assembled scores of local writers (Jennifer Egan, Gary Shtyengart, Nick Flynn, Tad friend… the list goes on) for a visual gag about his main character going for a coffee and stumbling across a room full of people more productive and successful than he is. At the time, actor Bryan Greenberg, who’s portraying said “failed Brooklyn writer,” told the Times that he didn’t really recognize any of them, explaining “I’m not much of a reader, to be honest. I wouldn’t even know what Michael Crichton looks like.” Everything about this feels correct.
