Eat (And Drink) Your Way Through Literary Brooklyn
Hank’s Saloon
It’s easy enough to make the argument that all dive bars are somehow bars for writers, insofar as people who write for a living usually don’t have a ton of money on hand and are generally interested in aspects of the human condition that exist outside the sphere of wealthy, under-35 yuppies who can afford expensive drinks named after Dorothy Parker (at least, hopefully they are). But Hank’s—which has been in the neighborhood for decades as its previous incarnation, the Doray Tavern—has been a particularly beloved staple for a lot of local authors, and was most recently paid tribute by David Wondrich in a lovely piece for Esquire. Go now before the lease expires, new ownership moves in, and drink prices inevitably double (or triple).
