Literary Brooklyn: A Real Life Tour of 10 Fictional Brooklyn Places
Black Spring, Henry Miller
It was here, on this corner darkened by elevated subway tracks (as it has been for well over a century), that 13-year-old Henry Miller was first introduced to Crime and Punishment when he unwittingly bought the book, thinking it was just pulp fiction. Although the corner isn’t home to any independent book sellers anymore, there is still a (rather tenuous) link to Miller’s introduction to Russian literature due to the existence of Mishkin Pharmaceutical Supplies. It’d be better if it was owned by the Raskolnikov family or if it were a pawn shop or something, but we’ll just have to make due.
