Everything You Need To Do In Brooklyn Before The Summer Is Over
Eat Uyghur Food in Brighton Beach
Brighton’s strong point as a beach option has always been its close proximity to post-beach Russian food. Even if a plate full of meats sounds too heavy for a summer afternoon, there’s something about being in the water that always seems to make people incredibly hungry. This month, though, branch out and try some Uyghur (pronounced “wee-grr,” so you don’t embarrass yourself) food, a deliciously carb-y, lamb-heavy cuisine from a small, predominantly Muslim region in northwest China. Get dumplings, get chewy, perfect lagman noodles smothered in juicy meats, get kebabs, get giant slabs of bread, get basil or pear soda, and wonder why there aren’t more places in the city that make any of this. And also, get all this at Cafe Kashkar, which, in addition to being a short walk from the actual beach, is BYOB.
