Everything You Need To Do In Brooklyn Before The Summer Is Over
Ride the Ferry-There Are Lots of Them
Of course, during any summer at all—and not summer 2013 specifically—I’d advocate for getting yourself on a boat whenever possible, and a ferry ride is always a perfect, cheap way to do this. It’s just that this summer, there are way more of them than usual. In addition to the usual stand-by’s (the Staten Island Ferry, the East River Ferry, the ferry to Governor’s Island), the Department of Transportation added a weekend Red Hook Ferry for the summer (which allows for free transfers to the East River Ferry), and, in light of long-term repairs on the R Train, the Rockaway Ferry has just added a stop at Pier 4 in Sunset Park. If you play your cards right, you could probably spend an entire day shuttling around Brooklyn by boat, for free (or for less money than it costs to ride the subway). This is not something to be taken for granted.
