Hot Enough for Ya? Ugh. Here Are Five Easy Ways to Beat the Heat
Make a Salad
Did you see that article in the New York Times a couple days ago? About how chopped salads are all the rage in the Northeast? And do you remember how a lot of people mocked that article because it’s really fun and easy to do that with a lot of Times trend pieces, be they about salads or how women like sex? Well, I say, feel free to laugh at the Times but don’t dismiss this article out of hand. Salads are the perfect summer food because they don’t involve turning on your oven. And, I mean, look. Sure. You could just buy a salad. No one would judge you. But it’s also super easy to make on your own. And with the bounty that is currently available at our local Brooklyn farmer’s markets, you’d have to be crazy—crazy!—not to go over to Grand Army Plaza (or your own local farmer’s market) early on a Saturday morning, before it gets too hot, and buy fragrant basil, and juicy tomatoes, and succulent peaches, and make an amazing chopped salad of your own. And then you’ll have a healthy meal that won’t include having to make fire. Which, fire is fun. But not in this heat.
