The 5 Best Public Piers in Brooklyn
Canarsie Pier
This 600-foot pier is perhaps the borough’s most popular spot for pier-fishing; 1,000 to 2,000 people show up on the weekends, NY1 reported. So it was a big deal when the Sandy-damaged pier reopened in May, following a federally funded, $3 million repair. The city originally built the pier with the intention of making it a commercial dock, but the larger plan to turn Jamaica Bay into a seaport never took sail; the National Park Service now controls it. Because of pollution, the fish down there were unfit for human consumption by the 1920s, but the waterways have since become far cleaner, according to the park service. [photo]
