It’s the 90s All Over Again In Williamsburg
There are some trends that feel like they’re localized to the Internet. You know, memes like Grumpy Cat or the Ikea monkey (remember that little angel?!) enter the online vocabulary to a huge extent, but they mostly don’t carry over into real life. It’s not like you hang out just talking about BuzzFeed lists with your friends, right? You don’t do that, do you? Tell me you don’t. Maybe you do? I don’t know.
Anyway, one of the things that anyone who spends anytime on the Internet knows is that the 90s are huge right now. Everyone loves the 90s. And, like, they love all parts of the 90s, from the music to the clothes to the pop culture references to the drugs to the art. Everything 90s is new again. But it’s been kind of hard to say whether or not the obsession with the 90s has really translated into the sphere of living that exists beyond the Internet (otherwise known as real life) until just recently. Because recently? We’ve just been totally saturated with 90s things, including things like the New Museum’s NYC 1993 exhibit or even the re-release of Jurassic Park, seminal 90s movie that it is. And there’s even more ways that the 90s are coming back, right to the streets of Brooklyn. Williamsburg, to be specific. Here are some reasons that it’s the 90s all over again.
