The 5 Littlest Cemeteries in Brooklyn
Barkaloo Cemetery
Adjoining the northeastern corner of Xaverian High School on Narrows Avenue, this Bay Ridge graveyard “was founded in 1725 by Dutch immigrant William Harmans Barkaloo,” according to ForgottenNY. A plaque on the gate, placed in 1962, names the lot the Revolutionary War Cemetery because two of Barkaloo’s sons may have fought and died in the Battle of Brooklyn and been buried here. “The Cortelyou family, who owned the land, allowed the ground to be used as a graveyard for some 60 soldiers who died during the battle,” according to The Graveyard Shift by Carolee Inskeep, Ephemeral NY reported.
