-How long have you been living in Brooklyn?
i was born and grew up in nyc, but moved “on my own” to brooklyn in 2007
-What brought you here?
loathe of Manhattan and being closer to everything I do so I don’t have to travel too far.
-What do you find to be unique about the artistic community in Brooklyn?
it’s constantly morphing into a strong community that cares and believes in art and supporting one another. there are so many people willing to help bring ideas big or small to reality and it’s just beautiful.
-What are some of your inspirations—both in your art/career and just in your everyday life?
i’m inspired by new places, textures, and exploring. I love the mountains, fresh air, and pointing out details hardly seen. I’m constantly torn between nature and concrete city for these reasons. I’m also a huge people person, and enjoy talking to people about their lives. I enjoy getting people together who may not usually meet in the same room. I’m very inspired by my parents as well. My mother is a journalist and I think she’s instilled some sort of “explore & find out” quality in myself.
-Do you see yourself staying in Brooklyn?
i love brooklyn, however this is a tough question. if my family didn’t live here and if I weren’t dedicated to my band, I would probably be living elsewhere. someday I see this as a possibility, but i like being close to family and i try to remain loyal to projects.
-What’s a perfect Brooklyn day for you?
waking up and cooking breakfast for myself and maybe a friend or two. then biking to prospect park or coney island, walking around, grabbing dinner at Newtown, practicing with my band, and then playing or going to see a show somewhere…. dream day
-What are the challenges inherent to being an artist in Brooklyn?
finding ways to pay rent for my apartment and practice space!
