Inside Mauro Remiddi’s Greenpoint Apartment
While an international move may seem like an extreme leap to take so quickly, such impulse seems to serve as Remiddi’s guiding principle in life. He moved to London from his native Milan at 26 without knowing a word of English. “I was an alien in Italy. I was this guy who doesn’t like football doesn’t drink coffee, doesn’t smoke—what are you doing here?”
It was years later that he at last grew into the coffee-obsessed Italian cliché. While watching Twin Peaks he noticed how cool the main character looked drinking black coffee and decided he was ready to start. “Since then, it’s such a routine: it’s like doing yoga. For a moment, everything makes sense.” Now he’s formed strong opinions when it comes to coffee and likes to support the small coffee houses in his neighborhood, but “when someone make a bad coffee it really gets me upset. It makes me want to say, oh man, your coffee is a disgrace.”
