Obviously Williamsburg has changed quite a bit since you first moved to the area in 1983. What are the best and worst aspects of all the new development? Do you know what’s become of your first apartment?
I never had an apartment in Williamsburg. I had a storefront, I lived in the back and worked in the front. Now it’s the Subway sandwich shop on Bedford Avenue. The worst of the new Williamsburg are those condos on Kent Avenue that look like they were air-lifted in from Boca Raton. The best of the new Williamsburg is that Ken Butler is still performing regularly at the Brooklyn Rod & Gun Club on Kent Avenue.
