Talib Kweli: “What World Does Bloomberg Live In?”
Rapper Talib Kweli, a Park Slope native and resident, criticized Bloomberg at a rally outside City Hall this morning in protest of Stop and Frisk, Politicker reports. “I heard [Bloomberg] say that no one should ever be racially profiled,” Kweli said. “What world does that man live in? I don’t know, I don’t live in that world.” Bloomberg, Politicker reports, has said stop-and-frisk policies are based on reasonable suspicion and not skin color, even though 87 percent of those stopped and searched are black and Latino.
“In a fair and equal world, stop-and-frisk might make sense,” Kweli said. “But we don’t live in a fair and equal world. We live in a world where not everyone starts at the same place. We live in a world that was built on the backs of slaves, some of them are still buried right here under City Hall. You understand what I’m saying?”
Also at the rally were Brooklyn councilmembers Jumaane Williams, Latitia James and Brad Lander.
