Bye-Bye Brooklyn: 6 End of Summer Getaways
Weekend Trip (by plane):
Quebec City
Everyone knows how great Montreal is already. Quebec City is the secret of French-Canada and so you should take advantage of its charms before everyone knows about it. And I’m not saying that going to French-Canada is anything like going to France, because it’s not, but it has multitudes of its own charms and they are plenty charming. Especially because you can experience them without the jet lag you’d get by going to Paris for the weekend.
At over 400 years old, Quebec City is one of the oldest cities in North America and has the centuries-old fortification walls and winding cobblestone streets to prove it. Eat classic French fare at offbeat places like La Cuisine Bar and Bistro and ride a bike around the old part of the city.
And practice ordering the Canadian beer, Labatt Blue, with a French accent until your voice is indistinguishable from the French-Canadians as you say la-bah-blah, with the best of them. Vive la France/Canada!
Getting there: Fly. Fly like the wind. Out of JFK, I guess? Look it up.
