Bye-Bye Brooklyn: 6 End of Summer Getaways
Day Trip:
Beacon, NY
The town of Beacon, NY has one of those Main Streets that you find yourself wandering down, looking into the windows of real estate offices and thinking, Wow, I could buy a beautiful 100-year-old house for less than I spend on rent each month. And while that thought would be a gross exaggeration, it is still something you’d think because, wow, is it ever beautiful and cheap up in Beacon.
Beyond the physical beauty of the rolling hills and Hudson River, the town boasts the amazing museum Dia:Beacon, which is housed in an old Nabisco factory. Spend the day wandering through Richard Serra’s sculptural mazes and then grab some food from Cafe Amarcord before heading back into Brooklyn.
Getting there: Take the Metro North to Beacon out of Grand Central Station.
