Nowadays, Brooklyn real estate has gotten so expensive that many people move here once they’ve made it. But back in Arthur Miller’s day, it was the opposite: the Upper East Siders moved to Gravesend after the family lost their fortune in the stock market crash of 1929. Miller graduated from Coney Island’s Lincoln High School and went off to college, eventually becoming America’s most important playwright, like, ever. This year’s Death of a Salesman revival won the Tony for Best Revival of a play, as did productions in 1999 and 1984, speaking to his continued relevance and supremacy.
