The Nilsson family often moved between New York and California, and in the 1970s Harry would be associated with the hard-partying Los Angeles scene. (It was with Nilsson that John Lennon would spend his Lost Weekend.) But Harry, who often mined his childhood and family history for his best work—1969’s semi-autobiographical album Harry, or the standards album A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night—was born in Bushwick in 1941.
