Four successful and attempted suicides have taken place on or near the Verrazano Bridge since April, Bay Ridge Odyssey reports. The most recent happened on Friday, when 46-year-old Brooklynite Benny Guzman, a missing person, leaped from the Bay Ridge-Staten Island connector; rescue efforts failed to find his body.
In late May, a Staten Island man jumped to his death from the bridge; the month before, police were able to intervene before a man jumped. In mid-May, a man was found dead in his SUV, of an apparently self-inflicted gun wound, in a rest area near the Brooklyn side of the bridge.
In Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta’s friend famously slipped on the bridge and died.
