Smorgasburg, The All-Food Flea Market
The two most popular things in Brooklyn right now are flea markets and food, so doesn’t it make sense to combine the two? More than 100 vendors will participate in Smorgasburg on Saturdays this summer in Williamsburg. “There’s no large-scale retail food market in NYC the way there is in most of the world’s great cities,” says Smorgasburg’s Eric Demby, “and we like the potential for social impact, of creating an accessible food market at this cultural moment.” He hopes to “integrate upstate small farmers who need a larger customer base with local, young NYC purveyors and makers who strive to source as close to home and as responsibly as possible.”
