A Coney Island Swan Song
It’s the last summer for seven of the eight iconic boardwalk businesses that were almost booted last year—for definite, this time. After a lengthy negotiation, spots like Ruby’s will be back, serving beers to Riegelmann ramblers for another year. Once they’re gone, their evil landlord Zamperla will likely Times Square-ify the spaces. But Zamperla also built several new rides in Coney Island for this season, including two new roller coasters, the area’s first in roughly 40 years, both a part of its Scream Zone—the entrance to which necessitated the illegal bulldozing of beloved boardwalk fixture Shoot the Freak.
